1. Our Privacy Commitment
At Lotay, we believe that your outdoor adventure data is personal and should remain under your complete control. As a climbing tracking app designed for freedom and exploration, we prioritize your privacy above all else—starting with the fact that Lotay requires no account registration, login credentials, or personal identification to use its core features. This privacy policy outlines how we handle data in the app, what information we may access (and why), and how you retain full ownership of your adventure records at all times.
We have designed Lotay to minimize data collection and maximize your control, ensuring that your climbing journey remains private unless you choose to share it. Our approach to privacy aligns with the spirit of outdoor exploration: uncomplicated, transparent, and focused on your experience.
2. Data We Collect & Why
Lotay collects only the data necessary to provide its core tracking and documentation features—all of which is stored locally on your device by default. We do not collect or store personal information (such as your name, email, or contact details) unless you voluntarily provide it (e.g., when contacting our support team).
Location Data (GPS)
When you enable tracking, Lotay accesses your device's GPS to record your route in real time. This data is used solely to generate your journey map, calculate distance/duration, and mark checkpoints at specific locations. Location data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly use the app's sharing feature to send it to external platforms (at your request).
User-Generated Content
This includes photos, personal notes, difficulty level ratings, and any other information you add to checkpoints. All user-generated content is your exclusive property and is stored locally on your device. You may delete, edit, or export this content at any time, and we never access or view it without your explicit action (e.g., if you choose to share a checkpoint photo).
Usage Statistics (Local Only)
Lotay compiles statistical data (total distance, journey duration, elevation, etc.) based on your tracked routes. This aggregated data is calculated and stored locally on your device to help you view your adventure metrics—it is not shared with Lotay or any third parties unless you choose to export/share it.
3. Data Storage & Security
The vast majority of your Lotay data is stored locally on your mobile device, meaning you have complete physical control over it. We recommend enabling device-level security (such as passcodes, biometrics, or encryption) to protect your adventure records from unauthorized access on your device.
If you choose to use optional cloud backup features (if available), your data will be encrypted during transmission and storage. Lotay does not have access to your cloud backup credentials, and all backed-up data remains your property. We never sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for commercial purposes—your climbing history is yours alone.
4. Data Sharing & Transparency
Lotay does not share your data with any third parties automatically. Any data sharing occurs only when you take explicit action:
- Sharing journey data/photos with friends via the app's sharing feature
- Importing/exporting data to compatible third-party platforms
- Contacting support and voluntarily sharing data to troubleshoot issues
In all cases, you choose what to share, with whom to share it, and when to share it. We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose outside of providing the core Lotay features you request.
5. Your Privacy Controls
As a Lotay user, you have full control over your privacy and data:
- GPS Control: You may enable/disable tracking at any time, and Lotay only accesses location data when tracking is active.
- Data Deletion: You can delete individual journeys, checkpoints, or all Lotay data directly within the app at any time.
- Export Options: You may export your data (routes, checkpoints, statistics) to save or transfer it to other devices/platforms.
- Permission Management: You can modify app permissions (location, camera, storage) through your device's settings at any time, limiting what data Lotay can access.
Disabling certain permissions (e.g., location) will limit some features (e.g., GPS tracking) but will not prevent you from using other parts of the app (e.g., viewing existing checkpoints).
6. Third-Party Services
Lotay may offer integration with third-party platforms (e.g., map services, social media, cloud storage) to enhance your sharing and visualization experience. These third parties have their own privacy policies, and Lotay is not responsible for their data practices. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of any third-party services you choose to use with Lotay.
We only partner with third-party services that prioritize user privacy and data security, and all integrations are optional—you may use Lotay's core features without connecting to any third-party platforms.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this privacy policy occasionally to reflect changes in Lotay's features or to clarify our data practices. Any significant changes will be communicated through in-app notifications (when available) or via our support email. We will never make changes that reduce your privacy protections without clear notice, and your continued use of Lotay after changes are posted signifies your acceptance of the updated policy.
